How to use it

• Am I in the shade? — open the app and the card at the bottom answers it, and says until when.
• When does that spot fall into shade? — press and hold anywhere on the map for that spot's day, hour by hour.
• Take the cooler street — "Route here" compares the fastest walk with the shadier ones, in minutes added and minutes of sun saved.
• A walk with no destination — say how long you want to be out and Hikage proposes a stroll that keeps to the shade.
• Look back — your walks are coloured by sun and shade, by day, week, month or year.

Questions

My city is not covered

Settings → Supported cities → "Request a city". Cities are added without an App Store update. A covered city is fetched when you arrive, or ahead of a trip.

The shade looks wrong

Shadows come from building footprints and heights. Street trees, elevated roads, walls and temporary structures are not included. Tokyo's building data is the national survey as of 2022, so anything built since is missing; the app says so on the map.

It says "unknown"

Outside a covered area, with a GPS fix worse than 65 m, or at night, Hikage answers "unknown" rather than guessing.

Nothing on my Apple Watch

The iPhone computes and the watch displays. Keep the iPhone nearby and both apps up to date.

Steps and time in daylight show 0

Check that Health reading is allowed. Time in daylight is measured by Apple Watch, so days without the watch have none.

Deleting your data

Walks, favourites and downloaded cities all live on the device. Deleting the app deletes them.
